We report a 71-year-old woman with concomitant ocular myasthenia gravis and euthyroid Graves' ophthalmopathy. Unilateral ophthalmoplegia, including ptosis, initially was responsive to edrophonium and corticosteroids, except for diplopia on upward gaze, but refractory swelling of the inferior rectus muscle and proptosis followed. Autoantibodies to acetylcholine and thyrotropin receptors were det...
متن کاملMyasthenia gravis associated with nephrotic syndrome.
M gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by the development of IgG autoantibodies against postsynaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junctions.1 The disease is seen predominantly in women, while it increases in males over 50 years of age. Glomerulonephritis rarely occurs during the course of MG. Reports on the co-existence of idiopathic or thymoma as...
متن کاملMyasthenia Gravis and Associated Diseases
BACKGROUND Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease caused by the action of specific antibodies to the postsynaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction, leading to impaired neuromuscular transmission. Patients with MG have an increased incidence of other autoimmune diseases. AIM to determine the presence of other associated diseases in patients with MG. METHOD A group of 127 patie...
متن کاملThymolipoma-associated Myasthenia Gravis with High Titer of Anti-MuSKAb: A Case Report
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular junction disorder caused by pathogenic autoantibodies to some parts of the post-synaptic muscle endplates. About 85% of generalized MG patients have autoantibodies against post-synaptic acetyl-choline receptors (AChR). From the 10-15% of the remaining patients, 45-50% are positive for Muscle Specific Tyrosine Kinase-Antibody (MuSK-Ab). It is believed th...
